Follow our advice if you are having trouble achieving a golden crust on bread when you bake it at home.
Professional bakers sprinkle flour over the top of the dough after the first proving. They then prove the dough for the second time, place it in a hot oven (follow your recipe instructions on oven temperature) and spray the inside of the oven with cold water to create steam during baking.
Use the fine sprayer that you use for plants to spray your oven – you’ll find it in the hardware store (obviously don’t use one that you have previously sprayed your house plants with, but a new one!).
You can also brush the bread with an egg wash before baking – that’s an egg yolk mixed with a little cold water – to give the bread a glossy crust.
